This cotinga lives high in forests of the Amazon Basin. Males are deep purple-red, while females are gray with white wing edges, giving the sexes very different plumage.
The male is deep claret-purple, with a darker head, white in the wings and purple scapulars. The female is gray, with white edges to the wing feathers.
It feeds in the forest canopy on fruit, including palms and figs, and sometimes insects. Females may join mixed canopy flocks, while males can be seen alone.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
