The Ohiya rat is a ground-dwelling rodent endemic to Sri Lanka. A rainforest study reported that it feeds predominantly on fruit.
Under a microscope, the surface of a guard hair has a chevron pattern and its inner medulla shows irregular honeycomb-like cells. These patterns also occur in other rodents and are not unique to this species.
It is ground-dwelling and was reported as more common in mountain forests than lowlands. A study in Sinharaja rainforest described it as predominantly frugivorous.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
