The Greater Pewee occurs widely in Mexico and breeds in mountain forests in Arizona and locally in western New Mexico. In the U.S. it is mainly a summer bird.
It is about 18–20 cm long, plain gray, with a short crest and a noticeable orange lower mandible.
It watches for flying insects from a perch, often high in a pine, then flies out to catch them in mid-air. Its song is often rendered as “Jose Maria.”
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
