This deer mouse has records from a restricted part of north-central Mexico. It uses grassy foothills and mountain slopes, distinct from nearby desert scrub.
Winter specimens are typically gray, while specimens from warmer months tend to be pale brown.
Field records place it in grassy transition habitat on mountain slopes among sotol and yucca rather than on the lower desert plain. In captivity, newborn young gave high-pitched calls and later became quiet.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
