This small bird lives in mountains from southwestern Canada into the western United States. Its white eyebrow and black head stand out, and it moves to lower elevations in fall and winter.
It has a black crown and throat, white cheeks, and a strong white eyebrow stripe. Male and female plumage is similar.
It eats many insects during the day as well as plant foods such as berries and seeds. It uses mountain coniferous and mixed woodland for nesting and may move downslope in fall and winter.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
