The Fox Kestrel is a small falcon with an almost wholly russet adult plumage, a long tail, and narrow wings. It occurs around the Sahel, south of the Sahara Desert.
Adults are mostly fox-red, with fine black streaks on the back and wings. The long tail has faint bars, and the sexes have similar plumage.
It watches from a tree or rock and drops onto prey on the ground; it also catches insects in the air. It favors dry savannas and semi-deserts with rocky features.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
