This pitta ranges along Australia's east coast north into Papua New Guinea. It lives in rainforests and sclerophyll forests; some may move in colder months.
It shows a chestnut crown, blue shoulders, green wings, and a yellow breast.
It eats mainly snails and insects. To open a snail, it repeatedly strikes the shell against rocks.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
