The Magellanic Penguin breeds along southern South American coasts and islands. It catches fish and squid at sea and raises chicks in nests on land.
Adults have a white belly with black bands under the chin and across the front of the chest. Young birds have gray-blue backs and chests.
The pair shares incubation. After the chicks hatch, one parent forages at sea while the other guards the nest, and they alternate.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
