The Papuan bandicoot is a small bandicoot recorded in the mountains of southeastern New Guinea. An expedition found underground nests made with leaves.
The 1997 report called it the second-smallest peroryctid known at the time and described it as a smaller version of the related Microperoryctes longicauda.
The expedition found three occupied nests in primary forest on Garatin Ridge. In the description considered most reliable, a cavity about 50 cm below ground led to an oval leaf nest about 15 by 25 cm.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
