This rodent is known from five West African countries. Its English common name points to a rufous nose; a Ghana survey also recorded it near wet grassland and a river.
The MDD English name is “West African Rufous-nosed Rat,” referring to a rufous nose. The taxon page and field survey used here do not provide a detailed description of its full coat or measurements.
A 2024 survey recorded eight captures, all at Fodome Ahor in Ghana. The site description mentions the Nubui River and wetter grassland, but this is evidence from one locality, not a species-wide habitat preference.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
