This burrowing rodent occurs in the high puna south of Lake Titicaca.
The outer ear pinnae are densely covered with reddish-brown to blackish hair.
It burrows in root-bound soil beneath grass on flat puna. The study also recorded burrow layouts and spacing between colonies.
In the field, individuals were observed giving high-pitched whistles and keeping their heads outside burrow entrances for extended periods.
The dense fur is reddish, and the upper incisors are pale, narrow, and project forwards.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
