The current name is Microtus bucharensis. It is recorded from Tajikistan's Zeravshan Range; a 2024 study uses the former combination Blanfordimys bucharensis.
The 1995 account describes the nominate form from the Zeravshan region as strongly yellowish on the back. It describes the species’ tail as often weakly two-toned.
A paper published in 2024 reports captures during 1987–1989 on the gentle northern slope of the Zeravshan Range, on gravel-loess ground previously used for agricultural plantings.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
