The Black Falcon is a large falcon spread across much of mainland Australia. It uses open habitats in arid and semi-arid areas, including wooded watercourses.
Its plumage is dark brown to sooty black, with a pale throat. The cere, eye-rings, and feet are pale grey; some individuals have faint, narrow bars under the wings and tail.
It feeds mostly on birds, especially flocking, ground-feeding seed-eaters. It also takes small mammals and large insects, and occasionally eats carrion.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
