Western Hyomys is a New Guinea rodent. A specialist account notes a few white wisps around the ears, while a project environmental report records it in rainforest and disturbed places, especially where old gardens meet forest.
MSW3 describes this as a small-bodied Hyomys, with only traces of white hairs around the ears.
The PNG LNG project environmental report says it inhabits rainforest and disturbed areas, and is plentiful where old gardens abut forest.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
