This African bat has conspicuous white markings. A 2016 study captured 10 individuals at two sites in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and reported individual variation in shoulder and belly patterns.
Its black coat has three white facial marks, a white throat ruff, four white back stripes and broad white bands along the sides of the belly. Most described animals have two shoulder spots; one male had three partly joined spots.
Researchers captured 10 bats at Mbiye Island and Yoko Forest Reserve in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The paper records those forest sites; it does not show that every individual uses the same forest structure.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
