The Rufous Vanga is endemic to Madagascar and occurs mainly in rainforest below 800 metres.
The adult male has rufous back and tail, a glossy black head, throat, and breast with a blue sheen, white underparts, and a broad pale-blue bill.
It catches invertebrates and small vertebrates on branches, trunks, and the forest floor. It nests in a tree fork in the forest interior, sometimes with help from an immature male from the previous year.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
