The Black-chested Buzzard-Eagle is a large South American raptor whose broad wings and short tail form a triangular silhouette. It searches for prey over grasslands and rocky slopes.
Adults have a dark gray back with paler shoulders and a whitish throat and belly with fine bars. The tail is uniformly dark, and the broad wings and short tail form a triangular shape in flight.
It is usually solitary or in family groups and searches for prey while soaring. It eats rodents, medium-sized mammals, and snakes, and may also take carrion.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
