The California Towhee is a sparrow-like bird of scrub in California and Oregon. It forages on the ground and stays near low shrubs.
Adults are grayish to dark brown, with rusty brown around the bill and under the tail. Males and females have much the same coloration.
It lives in tangled chaparral and other dry scrub, hopping or walking on the ground to forage and usually staying near shrubs or trees. It also visits town gardens.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
