The Purple-bearded Bee-eater occurs only on Sulawesi. Adult males have long purple throat feathers that hang like a beard.
An adult male's long purple throat feathers cover the chest and contrast with its green back and elongated central tail feathers. The female's purple area does not extend as far down the belly.
In forest clearings and gaps in secondary woodland, it watches from a high branch for flying insects. After a short chase it returns to a perch and strikes its prey against the branch before swallowing it.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
