Yamdena Island Melomys was described from Yamdena Island, Indonesia. The original paper describes a cinnamon-brown back and white cheeks; specimens came from around one locality on the island.
Its dorsal fur is cinnamon-brown, with white cheeks and dark rings around the eyes.
Six of the seven type specimens were caught in ground traps in open, tall, disturbed vine forest. One adult male was caught in adjacent alang-alang grassland.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
