This flycatcher uses the lower levels of South American forests. It has a reddish-brown body and rusty tail; a Brazilian breeding record describes a nest in a cavity in a standing dead trunk.
The body is reddish brown and the tail is a vivid rust color. The 2011 paper attributes this plumage description to an earlier field guide.
At Tambopata, the species was recorded in the understory of seasonally flooded and unflooded forest, often among bamboo and vine tangles. In a Brazilian breeding record, a nest occupied a crack in a standing dead trunk, and adults brought small arthropods to the nestlings.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
