Current taxonomy lists it as a separate species, although the specialist book notes a treatment that includes it in C. boliviensis. The book cites just one detailed burrow record, from 1918.
Its back is glossy brown, with black flecks that form a faint stripe down the middle. The underside is black with white spots, especially near the armpits and groin.
A 1918 account quoted in the specialist book describes one excavated burrow about 4.6 m long, 2.45 m deep, and 0.92 m wide. This is the only detailed burrow record cited there.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
