This finch occurs on Gough Island and nearby vegetated stacks in the South Atlantic. It searches among moss and grasses for invertebrates and other food.
Adult males are olive-green with a black facial mask and bib, pale yellowish marks around the eyes, a green breast, and a yellower belly. Females are slightly smaller, with a browner facial mask and greyer upperparts. Juveniles have dark streaks on the head, back, and underparts.
It searches through moss and grass with its bill and feet for insects and spiders. Seeds and berries are also reported in its diet.
