The Australian Pelican has a long bill with a large pouch beneath it. Fish are its main food, and groups sometimes herd fish into shallow water.
Non-breeding adults are mainly white, with black lower-back and flight feathers. The bill and stretchy pouch are light pink, and the nail at the upper bill tip is yellow to orange. Juveniles are mainly brown, with heads ranging from white to brown and brownish-grey feet.
It dips its bill into shallow water to catch fish. Groups may also herd fish into shallow areas where they are easier to catch.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
