Cook’s Petrel breeds on islands off New Zealand and ranges widely over the open ocean outside the breeding season.
It has a grey head with a finely speckled forehead and crown, an M-shaped dark pattern across the upper wings and rump, and white underparts.
At sea it picks small crustaceans, squid and fish from near the surface. On breeding islands it nests in burrows under roots or rocks.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
