This small parrot lives in lowland and secondary forests of eastern Brazil. It searches for fruit in the canopy and is seen in pairs or small groups.
Males have a yellow face, olive hindneck and shoulders, blue edges to the wings, and a green-and-yellow tail. In females, yellow markings on the outer tail feathers are greener.
It uses the canopy of lowland and secondary forest; some fruit feeding has been observed. It is seen in pairs and small flocks and may make local movements. Its wild diet is otherwise largely unknown.
