This reddish-violet sponge was described from a mangrove root in Puerto Rico.
The described specimen formed a thick encrustation on a mangrove root.
It was collected on 5 February 1963 from a Rhizophora mangrove root at Isla Magueyes, La Parguera, southwestern Puerto Rico.
The described specimen was reddish-violet in life.
The specimen had coarse surface projections with fibres sticking out from their tips.
