This brush-furred rat was described from Masako Forest Reserve in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Its differences from close relatives were discussed using skull, ear, and hindfoot traits, while preserved coat color was considered unreliable.
The description uses a smaller skull and relatively shorter ears and hindfeet to distinguish it from close relatives. The authors warn that preservative discoloration makes coat color unreliable.
The type series was collected in both primary and old secondary forest at Masako. This is a collection record, not a survey of how often the species uses each habitat.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
