The Red-headed Quelea lives around wetlands and damp grassland; breeding males stand out with red heads.
A breeding male has a red head and buff nape. Outside breeding, the male has a brown head with a broad yellow eyebrow; the female has a pale orange face and throat.
Flocks can exceed 1,000 birds, and the species eats grass seeds and insects. It nests colonially in reedbeds, and colony sites may shift between seasons.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
