The Resplendent Quetzal lives in moist montane forest from southern Mexico to Panama. Males have iridescent green plumage, a red belly, and long tail plumes, and often eat fruits from the laurel family.
The male has metallic green head, back, and wings with a bright crimson breast and belly. The female is less conspicuous, with gray, bronze, or brown tones replacing some of the male's vivid colors.
It prefers fruits from the laurel family. When fruit is scarce, it also eats insects, small frogs, and lizards.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
