Jerdon's Nightjar is a nocturnal bird of southern India and Sri Lanka that catches insects in flight.
A male of the Sri Lankan subspecies aequabilis was recorded as dark with a bold white stripe on the throat.
It is active at night and catches flying insects around forest edges, woodland, and more open country.
Near Chennai, birds were observed calling from a bare branch about 10 m above the ground in a wooded campus near a lake in January 2020. In June 2021 two birds were also seen calling from a bare roadside branch near Kumizhi Lake.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
