This is a large rat recorded from the Nicobar Islands. A 1902 account also repeats a report of it moving among palm crowns.
A 1902 account distinguishes it from black rats by its larger body and long tail.
A 1902 account quoting Zelebor says it was often in palm crowns and leapt from tree to tree.
