This rodent was described in 2010. The paper reports known specimens only from Minas Gerais, Brazil. Its type locality is beside a stream, where three animals were caught in nearby grass.
The description calls it a relatively large Calomys with a tail shorter than the head and body. Its back is light yellow-brown, its snout is orange, and the tail is sharply bicolored.
In a rural survey near the type locality, three individuals were caught in grassy vegetation beside a stream. The site included hills where original forest had been cleared for farming, but this small sample does not define the species' full habitat.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
