The Mekong Wagtail breeds along low-flow river channels with rocky or sandy bars and shrubs. Its 2001 description recorded a breeding range from Cambodia into southern Laos.
Adults and first-adult birds lack green or yellow. They have a white throat and a white patch on the side of the neck, with a black stripe on the forehead extending to the bill base.
Unlike other wagtails, it also forages inside emergent bushes, walking along branches and picking small food items from the branches or leaves.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
