Layard's Parakeet is endemic to Sri Lanka and uses moist forest, tea plantations, gardens, and forest edges.
Adult males are green with a narrow dark-green collar and red bill. Females lack the male's collar and have a dark bill.
It feeds in the canopy on fruit, flowers, buds, and nectar, usually in pairs or small groups.
