This fruit bat was described from Waigeo Island. Its only precisely known locality is near the island’s north coast, though nearby islets may also hold it.
A central strip of its back has dark brown bare skin, while the head and shoulders have olive-brown fur. The brown patch on the chest and belly varies among specimens.
Several adult females in a late-1909 cave-collected series carried embryos. This is one collection record and does not establish the full breeding season.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
