In breeding plumage, this seabird is black above and white below. In Britain and Ireland, it breeds in colonies on coastal cliffs.
In breeding plumage it is black above and white below. Its thick, flattened black bill helps distinguish it from the similar Guillemot, which has a thinner bill.
It spends much of its time at sea and comes ashore to breed. Its short wings are better suited to swimming than flight, and it nests in colonies on cliffs alongside Guillemots and other seabirds.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
