This spiny rat was studied in the lowland Amazon of northeastern Peru. Its chestnut sides contrast with a white belly, and it uses more than one kind of forest habitat.
The chestnut sides sharply contrast with the white belly, and a darker, broader stripe runs along the middle of the back.
At the reserve, pregnant or lactating females were recorded in multiple months, suggesting that breeding may occur through much of the year at that site.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
