The yellow-throated marten lives in forests of southern and eastern Asia and stands out for its dark head and golden throat.
Its head is black or dark brown, its back and underside range from light brown to yellow, and its chest and throat are yellow or golden. Coat color varies among individuals and subspecies; the summer coat is darker and duller than the winter coat.
Researchers studied Yellow-throated Martens and sables in Taipinggou National Nature Reserve in northeastern China from 2022 to 2023. They combined transect surveys with 60 infrared cameras, then used recorded marten locations and environmental conditions to model suitable habitat. Thirty-five marten occurrence sites were used in the habitat model.
The model estimated 23.28 square kilometres of suitable habitat for Yellow-throated Martens. Of this, 15.73 square kilometres overlapped the sable's modelled habitat. Schoener's D, an index of environmental niche overlap, was 0.56. Elevation, slope, and distance from roads and forests were among the variables used.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
The reserve model estimated 23.28 km2 of suitable habitat, with 15.73 km2 overlapping the sable's modelled habitat.
