A woodcreeper of humid lowland and mangrove forests that searches bark for small animals.
The sexes are similar. The head, throat and upper back are dark with buff streaks; much of the remaining plumage is chestnut, and the bill is long and slightly curved.
It forages in humid lowland, mangrove and secondary forests, probing bark for arthropods and sometimes feeding at army-ant swarms.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
