The desert gundi is a small herbivorous rodent found in a few rocky areas around the Sahara.
Gundis have strong, comb-like hairs on the hind feet for grooming, and a fine, dense coat. C. vali looks very similar to its close relative C. gundi.
It is herbivorous and eats leaves, fruits, seeds, stems, and flowers. In a study near Béchar, Algeria, Amaranthaceae plants dominated its diet; foods also changed with local plant availability after rainfall and across seasons.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
