This small bird lives in dry woodland and scrub in southern Africa. Its main range is split into northern and southern populations across Namibia, Botswana, and South Africa.
Males have a gray head and back, a white eyebrow and wing bar, a black facial mask, and a broad black breast band. Females have pale orange on the throat and breast, fading to white on the belly.
It uses dry savanna woodland, scrub, and wooded watercourses. Pairs or small family groups search leaves and branches for insects and sometimes hawk flying prey.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
