A stork of Asian wetlands whose bill has a gap between the mandibles except near the tip.
Adults have a whitish body, black flight feathers and tail, and a bill with a gap between the upper and lower mandibles.
It wades in shallow wetlands and eats snails and other small aquatic animals. At breeding sites, it nests in groups in trees.
It flies with its neck extended, gaining height on thermals before gliding.
Both parents build the nest from leaves, grasses, and twigs. They share incubation of two to five eggs for about 27–30 days and both feed the young.
Males and females look alike, while young birds have traces of brown in their plumage.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
