This laughingthrush is endemic to Taiwan. It occurs in forest, secondary growth, and scrub, and forages mainly on the ground.
It is about 28–30.5 cm long, with brown upperparts, a rufous crown and nape, a white throat, and a pale cinnamon-buff belly and undertail coverts.
It forages mainly on the ground for insects in forest, secondary growth, and scrub. Outside the breeding season it also takes seeds and berries, and groups of about six to fifteen are often seen.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
