A bird of South Africa's mountains, marked by a silver-grey head and reddish rump, that searches rocky Fynbos for insects.
Males have a silver-grey head and back streaked with black, black sides to the neck, and a burgundy-red rump. Females have grey instead of black on the head and duller overall color.
It searches among rocks and vegetation for invertebrates on rocky slopes and ridges. It nests on the ground, and family groups tend to stay in the same territories year-round.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
