A small cotinga of the upper canopy in northern Amazonian and Andean foothill forests. The male's purple breast tufts may be hidden at rest.
About 12.5 cm long, it is grey-brown with white scaling below and a white center to the breast and belly. A white facial crescent and stripe behind the eye mark the head; the male has purple tufts on the sides of the breast.
It perches alone or in pairs on exposed upper-canopy branches and sallies for aerial insects and fruit. The male may flare its tufts during display or aggressive interactions.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
