The Black-chinned Whistler is a whistler of the North Maluku islands. This account is limited to the subspecies Pachycephala mentalis obiensis, described from Obi and Bisa islands in Indonesia.
In the Obi subspecies, males have a black head, white throat, yellow-green back and wings, and yellow-orange belly; the small black chest marking does not join the black head. Females are duller, with a whitish throat spotted brown.
The Obi subspecies inhabits primary and secondary forest and forest edges. In the middle storey it hunts insects in mixed flocks with other insect-eating birds.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
