This Chocó thrush is listed separately from the White-throated Thrush in the 2025 Clements Checklist. The AOS proposal places it in the lower foothills from southwestern Ecuador to eastern Darién, and describes it as smaller than related forms, with a dark bill in most of the few available photos.
The AOS proposal describes the Dagua form as notably smaller than related forms and says the few available photos show a considerably darker, often entirely dark bill.
It occupies the lower foothills of the Chocó region; most Darién records are above 700 m. The AOS proposal describes a long, musical caroling song and notes that Dagua song examples have more level notes and less note doubling than White-throated Thrush.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
