The Nusatenggara short-nosed fruit bat was described from Indonesia's Nusa Tenggara islands. Its distinguishing features include the color of the ear margin and head fur.
The original description notes no pale margin on the ears and darker fur on the head than on the back.
One collection record in the original description came from the edge of lowland evergreen rainforest and rice fields at about 40 m on Sumbawa. This records a capture site, not the typical habitat throughout the species' range.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
