This small cottontail lives in forests and brushy cover at higher elevations in the Appalachian Mountains.
Its back is yellowish brown mixed with black, with a reddish-brown patch on the neck. The underside is white; the short fluffy tail is dark above and white below.
It uses high-elevation coniferous forest and dense cover such as mountain laurel, blueberry, rhododendron, and blackberry. It eats grasses, forbs, conifer needles, leaves, twigs, and fruit; winter buds and bark are suspected foods.
An extinction-risk assessment has not been added yet.
